Trusted and strong local news is essential for communities and for democracy. MacArthur President John Palfrey announced a network of local chapters as part of Press Forward, a national initiative to support the revitalization of local news, at the Obama Foundation Democracy Forum.
Palfrey joined media experts and journalists Nancy Gibbs, Sonal Shah and Darryl Holliday in a panel moderated by Judy Woodruff and presented by MacArthur. The panel discussed local news ecosystems, the role that it plays as democracy's immune system, and a much-needed plan to revitalize local news and journalism for the future, including reaching significant milestones by 2026–the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
