HarvestPlus has an ambitious goal: reaching 1 billion people with nutrient-rich staple foods by 2030. We’re optimistic, because in just a few years, biofortification has grown from an idea to a global reality. Millions of low-income rural families are already growing and eating these healthier foods. MacArthur’s 100&Change opportunity will enable us to reach 100 million people in Africa by 2022. That progress comes with challenges, as you’ll see in this video. Enriching familiar foods made from corn/maize and cassava (“gari” or “fufu”) with vitamin A makes children healthier, but also turns the food yellow or orange. That color change can raise questions.
