A policy brief examines factors that strengthen women’s voices in public accountability in Nigeria. Based on the findings, it recommends approaches that build women’s technical capacity, remove formal barriers, support women’s networks and power building, and commit to long-term funding. Even with these factors, it notes that accountability may not necessarily increase without careful design. MacArthur commissioned the brief from the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex to help reinforce a gender equity and social inclusion lens (GESI) for the On Nigeria program.
