
A green retrofit program implemented by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development reduced energy consumption in multi-family properties in Illinois by 18 percent, and water consumption by 26 percent, according to a MacArthur-supported report by the Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future. Energy Savers, a similar project by Elevate Energy and the Community Investment Corporation, also reduced gas consumption an average of 26 percent in multifamily properties in Chicago.
