Progress in nuclear security—including securing nuclear materials and preventing sabotage at nuclear facilities—has slowed since 2018, according to the 2020 Security Index from Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI). Despite this, threats of cybersecurity, terrorist organizations, and geopolitical instability have increased. Grantee NTI rates countries’ nuclear security conditions and makes recommendations of how countries can better protect nuclear materials.
