Many utility companies have made climate pledges, and a Sierra Club report looked at progress, if any, utility companies made on those climate pledges. The report found that most are not on the path to achieve 80 percent clean electricity by 2030, and 44 percent had made no progress or performed worse since a previous benchmark. The companies in the MacArthur-supported study account for 69 percent of remaining coal generation in the U.S., and current plans are inadequate for a transition to a clean grid.
