Fuerza Mexicana reports on the past, present, and power of Mexicans in the Chicago area. The MacArthur-supported report—available in Spanish and in an English language report—shares the history of Chicago’s Mexican population and documents the ways Mexican Chicagoans have supported, and continue to support, the city’s economy. One in five Chicagoans identify as Mexican, but studies often lump Mexicans in with a variety of Latine communities in Chicago. The report fills a gap in knowledge and highlights policy recommendations. Fuerza Mexicana is the result of a collaboration among six organizations convened by Latinos Progresando. Partners in the project include Erie Neighborhood House, La Casa Norte, and grantees Greater Southwest Development Corporation, Mujeres Latinas en Acción, and National Museum of Mexican Art. The report was written by the Great Cities Institute at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
