Infrastructure for news organizations includes things like publishing platforms, analytics, and professional training; infrastructure makes it possible for audiences to access the news that matters. Press Forward’s second open call was for grants that support the field’s infrastructure, and a few Press Forward funders discussed how they invest in local news infrastructure. Sometimes the support structures are tools and technology, and sometimes they support organizational sustainability and business development, and all are essential to delivering the news. Press Forward’s four investment priorities also include local news sustainability, equity, and public policy.
