A new report from the Catalytic Capital Consortium (C3) Grantmaking Program discusses how catalytic capital can seed funds and other investment vehicles. The first report in a series of three, it draws on lessons that emerged during a series of conversations at learning labs with experienced catalytic capital providers and fund managers, all of whom generously shared their insights, experiences, and expertise around the role catalytic capital plays in seeding, scaling, and sustaining high impact funds and enterprises. The C3 Grantmaking Program—a partnership between MacArthur, The Rockefeller Foundation, and the Omidyar Network housed at the New Venture Fund–hosted the labs.
This report, which was released in partnership with FSG and Courageous Capital, focuses on the "Seeding" context, when catalytic capital is deployed to funds or other investment vehicles that have novel aspects of their pursued strategy, have proposed structure and investments that are considered new, or are managed by a new investment manager.
