The Wildlife Conservation Society has published a large database of mammals in Bolivia, shedding light on the poorly known yet vast wildlife diversity of the South American country. The MacArthur-supported database project details distributional records for 116 species of mammals, from the 30-plus pound nocturnal rodent known as a pacarana to the jaguar, black spider monkey, and giant anteater. The database not only summarizes what biologists in Bolivia have determined about mammal distributions, it also points to information gaps, which will help to plan and preserve biodiversity.
