A Muslim Visibility Challenge aims to transform representation of Muslim characters on screen by eliminating harmful tropes and hiring Muslim creators to help tell more well-rounded stories. The challenge emerged from a report that found 1.1 percent of speaking characters are Muslim, while 25 percent of the world is Muslim. And the majority of Muslims on TV are presented with violent and harmful stereotypes. The Blueprint for Muslim Inclusion report, by grantee Pillars Fund and partners including Riz Ahmed, Left Handed Films, and USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, shares the data and steps to make a more inclusive media ecosystem.
