The December 2012 issue of the Journal of Benefit-Cost Analysis (JBCA) explores whether government programs that benefit individuals improve the broader well-being of society. The issue analyzes practical cases, among them a program in which employers provide healthy meals to employees and an analysis of the socio-economic benefits and costs of intensified management measures in forestry. The journal, published by the Society for Benefit-Cost Analysis and supported by MacArthur, seeks to improve the analytical practice of benefit-cost analysis and to expand scholarly knowledge in the field. Its scope includes topics in social policy such as education, poverty, and employment; as well as in environment, health, defense, and other areas to which benefit-cost analysis and related tools can be applied.
