The Illinois Humanities Council announced the winners of the Looking@Democracy Challenge, a national media competition supported by MacArthur and aimed at sparking ideas for strengthening American democracy. From a pool of more than 400 submissions, judges selected 11 winners to share in $100,000 in prize money. The top prize went to a 17-year-old recent high school graduate from Phoenix, Arizona, for her hip-hop video, American Vision, a challenge to her generation to get involved and improve government.
