A video produced by the Natural Heritage Institute (NHI) illuminates innovative tools and techniques for operating dams that help protect and restore ecological systems and support human food production. The MacArthur-supported video is part of NHI’s efforts to raise awareness of how the impact of water regulation on nature can be mitigated, and to explore the sustained role of rivers as a support system for human communities and ecological systems dependent upon fresh water. Widely viewed at conferences and water management institutions internationally, the video has prompted progress in the application of the techniques it depicts in regions throughout the world.
