A key aspect to justice reform is transparency and accountability through data—which is often underutilized for prosecutors. Now, another elected prosecutor has partnered with Prosecutorial Performance Indicators (PPI), a nationwide initiative to promote more effective, just, and transparent decision making in prosecution. In collaboration with PPI, Multnomah County, OR’s District Attorney Mike Schmidt launched a suite of data dashboards measuring his office’s progress towards three goals: capacity and efficiency; community safety and well-being; and fairness and justice. PPI is supported by MacArthur through a Safety and Justice Challenge grant to Florida International University. The project has grown to work with 13 prosecutors across the country.
