The Community Empowerment Project by Earthworks is putting infrared camera technology in the hands of people affected by oil and gas development to detect leaks and chronic pollution of gasses including methane, a contributor to global warming. MacArthur is supporting expansion of the project in California, Colorado, New Mexico Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas, which produce half of all oil and gas methane emissions in the United States. By working at the state level to advocate for strong regulations and enforcement, the project aims to eliminate 1.1 million metric tons of methane emissions.
