Storytelling shapes the world and Define American’s research team explores the science of storytelling to better understand culture. As a media advocacy organization, Define American provides tools for the field for shaping stories that move audiences—especially the “Moveable Middle,” a term referring to an elusive and enigmatic portion of the population who do not have a vested interest in or committed position on immigration.

“Move Them or Lose Them: Strategies for Deepening Engagement with Moveable Middle Audiences” is a field-advancing study from Define American and Harmony Labs that examines the TV, movies, digital news, and social media consumed by the “Moveable Middle” and reveals new story-first insights and tactics for reaching them.

Define American’s Founder and President Jose Antonio Vargas and Director of Research and Impact Sarah E. Lowe recently shared findings from the study at a MacArthur-hosted event
