Family Care International recently produced a Spanish-language version of the scientific journal The Lancet to help support maternal mortality prevention in Mexico and Latin America. A grant from MacArthur allowed Family Care International, in its role as a founding member of the Regional Task Force on Maternal Mortality Reduction in Latin American and the Caribbean, to identify, translate and publish articles from the journal on maternal death prevention that are most appropriate for the region. The Spanish-language version was designed for policy makers, academics, and activists who cannot read English but would benefit from scientific evidence about prevention. The publication has been presented in forums across the region, most recently in Acapulco in March at a high-level meeting about maternal mortality in Chiapas, Oaxaca, and Guerrero. This new Spanish-language publication has quickly become the second most-visited and downloaded publication on FCI's website.
