A new nonprofit Rideback Rise will support an annual cohort of fellows in film, television, digital, and audio content that advance racial equity with financial and creative resources. People of color are too often excluded from writing and directing positions in film, and mainstream representation perpetuates racial divides in the U.S. Rideback Rise aims to support Black, Indigenous, and People of Color writers, filmmakers, and creatives to advance racial equity, empower new leaders, and bridge culture gaps. MacArthur supported the initiative through Writers Guild Foundation along with other philanthropic partners.
