A reporting and education project by the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting uses the stories of six people to provide a comprehensive account of how the contemporary Arab world came to be. Fractured Lands: How the Arab World Came Apart includes a virtual reality experience and an accompanying K-12 lesson plan developed in partnership with The New York Times Magazine that will help spark discussion and analysis of the story and encourage student engagement. A university-level lesson plan has also been developed to guide research and discussion of the subject. The initiative is one of the first to come about from the MacArthur-supported Catalyst Fund, a Pultizer Center initiative aimed at fostering strategic partnerships between the Center and major news outlets to support work by freelance multimedia journalists on global issues.
