The MacArthur Foundation has made a $660,000 grant to support small Chicago-based arts organizations in obtaining the city’s Performing Arts Venue (PAV) License, required for most theaters with fewer than 500 seats. In order to receive the license a facility must meet all building and fire codes. Many small performing arts organizations lack the funds necessary to carry out code-related improvement projects required for licensing. The $660,000 fund, managed by the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation, will provide the vital support necessary for renovations, building permits, and architectural work.
