National Museum of Mexican Art Largest in U.S.

On December 5th, 2006 the Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum officially changed its name to the National Museum of Mexican Art in recognition of its longtime status as the largest Mexican cultural institution in the United States. The 20 year old museum does not charge admission and is the only Latino museum accredited by the American Association of Museums. Chicago is home to the second largest Mexican community in the United States, and this name change draws attention to the city’s growth as a center for Mexican culture.
