EnergyStar

Owners of multifamily properties can now obtain an ENERGY STAR score for their buildings by supplying relevant information to the government-backed program. ENERGY STAR is an easily understood number that will help multifamily owners understand their properties performance over time, and give tenants new information about the energy efficiency of their buildings. Similar to the ENERGY STAR scores for appliances, the new score for multifamily properties is intended to change how multifamily building owners, managers and tenants make energy-related decisions. Through its work on preserving affordable rental housing by improving its energy efficiency, the Foundation played a critical role in helping organize the broader multifamily industry to identify the data needed to inform the EPA’s process of developing the new score.
