Blue-price-increase-loop-housing-200

A report by the Institute for Housing Studies at DePaul University finds that the development of The 606 linear park, Chicago’s recent “rails to trails” project, may accelerate neighborhood change and lead to higher housing costs and increased risk of displacement for lower-income residents. The MacArthur-supported Institute found that The 606 had limited effect on the housing market surrounding the trail’s east side, where demand and housing was already high. But the market around the west end of the trail saw substantial increases in pricing due to new demand from buyers willing to pay a premium for properties near the trail.
