MacArthur joined the Obama Administration’s Data-Driven Justice Initiative, a bipartisan coalition of 67 city, county, and state governments who have committed to using data-driven strategies to divert low-level offenders with mental illness away from the criminal justice system and to changing approaches to pre-trial incarceration. MacArthur, through its Safety and Justice Challenge, will collaborate with communities participating in the Initiative to enable learning, facilitate adoption of best practices, and spark innovation. MacArthur is creating a $1.8 million Innovation Fund at the Urban Institute to award grants and provide technical assistance to help Data-Driven Justice Initiative and other communities create change on the ground and extend a national movement to promote reform across the country. More information about the Innovation Fund will be released in fall 2016.
