Helping to realize a goal of the Foundation's Models for Change initiative to "right-size" the juvenile justice system, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed legislation raising the age of juvenile court jurisdiction to include 17-year-olds charged with felonies. The bill passed the legislature after the Illinois Juvenile Justice Commission, a MacArthur grantee, released a two-year study of the impact of moving 17-year-olds with misdemeanors to the juvenile court and recommended the same for those with felony charges.
