The On Nigeria team is saddened to learn of the passing of Mrs. Adebanke “Banke” Funsho Akinrimisi, a longtime grantee. A barrister-at-law, Akinrimisi was the co-founder and a Director at the Centre for Women’s Health and Information (CEWHIN), which is a member of the National Home Grown School Feeding Program (HGSFP) cohort operating in Ogun State. Akinrimisi was a recipient of the MacArthur Foundation Fund for Leadership Development award, which laid the foundation for a new generation of advocates for reproductive health programming in Nigeria. Her project focused on the socio-cultural, economic, and legal dimensions of sexual and reproductive health and rights of female adolescent domestic workers in Lagos, and it led to the establishment of CEWHIN. An ardent champion of gender equity and social inclusion, Akinrimisi’s work in Ogun State tracking the HGSFP also enabled schoolchildren to have access to balanced meals each day, providing a multiplier effect on learning and life outcomes. We extend our deepest condolences to Akinrimisi’s family, friends, and colleagues and are grateful for her incredible impact and partnership through the years.
