Researchers from the Wildlife Conservation Society and the Kenyan Marine and Fisheries Research Institute have built a better fish trap, which keeps valuable fish in while letting young fish and non-target species out. The MacArthur-supported study involved modifying traditional African basket traps with escape gaps, researchers have created a trap that catches larger fish, increases profits, and minimizes the impact fishing has on coastal reef systems.
