Several MacArthur grantees and members of the Foundation-supported Committee on the Fiscal Future of the United States participated in the recent Fiscal Responsibility Summit convened by the Obama Administration. Those selected to participate included the Brookings Institution, Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, National Council of La Raza and the National Urban League. The bipartisan gathering brought together 64 members of the Administration and Congress and 56 community leaders to discuss how to restore the federal government’s long-term fiscal sustainability. The Summit also offered advice to the Administration on various aspects of the stimulus package, particularly those related to low-income and unemployed households and state fiscal relief. Robert Greenstein, Executive Director of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, was one of only two experts asked to address the summit.
