The Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago now sells shoulder bags woven by indigenous Shipibo communities, part of a MacArthur-supported effort to strengthen the ability of indigenous women from the Andean foothills and Amazon lowlands of Peru to generate income while maintaining their cultural practices. The Field Museum is working with Peruvian nonprofit CIMA-Cordillera Azul to develop quality of life plans for the Shipibo. Income generated from the project promotes the community's objective to deepen cultural values and manage natural resources sustainably in the face of threats to their livelihood and ecosystems of the region.
