Pathfinder International, a MacArthur grantee focused on global sexual and reproductive health, has successfully expanded its efforts to reduce postpartum hemorrhage in Nigeria through its Continuum of Care project by procuring needed supplies, equipment, and funding from several groups. The Lagos state Ministry of Health, the Planned Parenthood Federation, and the National Primary Health Care Development have paid for the training of midwives and health workers in alignment with the program. The United Nations Population Fund has funded clinical training, as well as the purchase of anti-shock garments as a tool in reducing postpartum hemorrhage. Additionally, The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria has co-funded the training of 87 tutors representing all midwifery schools in the country, as a step toward incorporating the organization’s Continuum of Care model into local school curriculum.
