How does “less-lethal” police action result in more than 1000 deaths? Grantee PBS Frontline collaborated with the Associated Press to tell the stories of people who died after the police used force that is supposed to be non-lethal. The team documented the killings of people of all ages and races, in articles and a documentary. This type of death is undercounted, and in half of the cases, law enforcement is not cited as causing the death.

In the interactive visual story, three sections, How it Happens, Who Dies, and Why Deaths Go Unnoticed, show videos with families of the victims, court evidence, and how police respond to the circumstances.
