A large Vietnamese rubber producer is beginning to constructively engage with conservation groups in Cambodia following a critical report by MacArthur-supported Global Witness that accused the company of illegally clearing large areas of intact forest. The company's actions are detailed in The Babbler, a newsletter for conservation group Bird Life. The report, Rubber Barons, examines a culture of secrecy and impunity that has allowed rubber giants to gain rights to more than 200,000 hectares of forest land through secretive deals with the Lao and Cambodian governments. In Cambodia, much of the land lies within a wildlife sanctuary.
