Long renowned for its extraordinary eateries and bakeries, the Greater Chatham Initiative for 75th Street Restaurant Row lost customers and revenue from the pandemic. However, the creation of the 75th Street Boardwalk opened up the area for local business and generated a resurgence of interest. A bold experiment and model for other business districts, the 75th Street Boardwalk received the 2021 Creative Placemaking Award as part of the annual Chicago Neighborhood Development Awards hosted by LISC Chicago.
MacArthur is proud to support the Creative Placemaking Award honoring the place-based community and economic development projects that use art and cultural activities to animate public spaces, rejuvenate structure and streetscapes, improve local business visibility and public safety, and bring people together to build a shared understanding of culture and community.
