Congress Recommends Funding to Discourage Child Marriage in Developing Countries

The recent Foreign Operations appropriations bill directs the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to make funds available “for activities to reduce the incidence of child marriage in developing countries.”  The International Center for Research on Women, a MacArthur grantee, used congressional briefings, targeted meetings with lawmakers, a State Department forum, and a powerful photo exhibit on Capitol Hill to educate congressional leaders to embrace this important directive.
