As part of the recently enacted economic rescue legislation, Congress approved a measure that will allow more low-income families to qualify for the Child Tax Credit in 2008 and provide more financial support for eligible families next year. About 2.4 million more low-income children will qualify for the credit, while the value of the tax credit will increase for about 10.5 million children who already qualify. The measure is effective for tax year 2008 only. MacArthur grantee The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities was part of a successful coalition to strengthen the credit. The Center provided the data, analysis, and strategic updates for the coalition.
