The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which provides federal funds to public broadcasting outlets, awarded $4.1 million to American Public Media to expand its network of unpaid "citizen sources" that help provide local news coverage across the nation. MacArthur was an early funder of the project. American Public Media's Public Insight Network includes 120,000 "citizen sources" who share information with journalists in 45 newsrooms. The new funding will permit the Network to increase by 100,000 people and 50 more newsrooms. MacArthur's media grantmaking seeks to help inform the American public about important domestic and international current affairs and policy issues.
