The Mexican Midwifery Association, created with support from MacArthur, has been accepted as an associate member of the International Confederation of Midwives, an important step toward Mexico’s fuller recognition of professional midwifery. The Confederation supports, represents, and strengthens professional associations of midwives on a global basis and has over 100 midwifery association members in about 100 countries. The Mexican Midwifery Association brings midwives together and promotes professional midwifery training and services based on the ICM standards as a way to ensure women’s rights and health during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period.
