Grants

2015 (2 years 6 months)
$400,000

WildAid seeks to end illegal wildlife trade and over-exploitation of natural ecosystems by reducing demand through public awareness campaigns and providing comprehensive protection. Its work in Indonesia includes national level policy engagement to reduce illegal trade in wildlife, driven largely by demand for wildlife products in China, and site based protection activities in the Birds Head Seascape in West Papua and Lamakera in Nusa Tenggara Timur. WildAid’s program in Lamakera focuses on developing and implementing a research initiative to collect baseline and trend data on Manta ray populations; expanding a sustainable tuna fishery operation; and enhancing the community as a snorkeling and dive destination. The intended outcome of the award is the creation of the manta research component of the Lamakera program.
