The WILD Foundation works to protect wilderness while meeting the needs of human communities. It works across cultures and boundaries by collaborating with local peoples, organizations, the private sector, and governments to create dynamic practical projects, inspiring solutions, and communications initiatives. The purpose of this project is to better understand key policy and institutional barriers to protecting primary forests and intact forest landscapes. Intended outcomes include peer reviewed analyses of the shortcomings of current forest-related policies and a communications effort to raise awareness about the critical benefits primary forests and intact forest landscapes provide. The project contributes to making the case that policymakers must appreciate the carbon stocks and other values within these forests and act to protect them whether or not they are under imminent threat.
