Wadata Media and Advocacy Centre (WAMAC) is a non-governmental organization that promotes transparency, accountability, and good governance through local-language investigative journalism focusing on corruption. With this award, WAMAC collaborates with Rise Network and Media and Journalism partners to plan for and participate in the 2024 first International Mass Communication Conference of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Participation strengthens knowledge sharing and networking between the field of journalism and academia, enhances strategies for better understanding of AI in media, and fosters community partnerships to create a new generation of tech savvy journalists.
Wadata Media and Advocacy Centre (WAMAC) is a non-governmental organization that promotes transparency, accountability, and good governance through local-language investigative journalism focusing on corruption and accountability. With this X-Grant, the media and journalism cohort is organizing an Amplify In-depth Media Conference on International Anti-corruption Day and International Human Rights Day, December 9 and 10, respectively, to reinforce learning on investigative journalism as a tool for improved accountability, democratic values, and social justice in Africa using the distinctive stories and uniqueness of the countries on the continent. The conference promotes accountability journalism and journalism in the service of democracy and human rights.
Wadata Media and Advocacy Centre (WAMAC) is a non-governmental organization that promotes transparency, accountability, and good governance through local-language investigative journalism focusing on corruption. With the previous award, WAMAC supported journalists from radio stations across six geopolitical zones in Nigeria to produce quality investigative reports that led to government remedial action. With this final award, WAMAC consolidates gains from the previous award by continuing to support investigative journalists working in seven Nigerian languages. With the upcoming 2023 elections, WAMAC trains journalists to open new investigations to ensure citizens keep an eye on election promises and corruption cases. WAMAC convenes town hall meetings to give community members the opportunity to discuss investigative findings. Community-based organizations across gender, geography, faith, and ability use information from investigative reports to track the use of public funds. The award contributes to On Nigeria's goal of reducing corruption and strengthening accountability, transparency, and participation.
Wadata Media and Advocacy Center (WAMAC), an arm of Wadata Communications, is a Nigerian not-for-profit dedicated to expanding the scope and efficacy of investigative journalism by providing knowledge, skills, and competencies to local journalists. WAMAC also provides communication services, including broadcast and social media training, and events management. With this renewal award, WAMAC is continuing its work with radio stations across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones to produce and disseminate investigative journalism in local languages. It is also building the capacity of communities to demand transparency and accountability. WAMAC is coordinating with other On Nigeria grantees. The award is expected to improve the quality and reach of local-language investigative journalism in Nigeria.
