URL Collective is a nonprofit organization with a mission to build a diverse and representative media landscape that addresses the unique challenges of Black and Brown communities worldwide. URL Collective was established with support from MacArthur in 2023 to URL Media, which aims to build a decentralized, multi-platform network of high-performing Black and Brown media organizations. URL Collective supports grassroots media organizations that serve underrepresented populations by helping them build their financial and business infrastructure to create more viable, sustainable businesses. By supporting these organizations, they strive to create a media ecosystem that reflects and uplifts the diversity of our communities. The three-year general operating grant is intended to support the growth and sustainability of the new nonprofit. Outcomes may include funding new positions to carry out core activities and supporting the development of an initial roadmap to execute URL Collective’s programs and services, which focus on expanding training and educational opportunities for journalists and content creators covering Black and Brown communities; building capacity for media organizations; fostering editorial collaborations; and increasing the dissemination of diverse stories and critical health and economic information to underserved communities.
