The Agora Journalism Center is the innovation hub for the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communications. It works to create, test, and iterate media tools, platforms, and public engagement projects that improve and deepen the ways in which journalists inform and relate to their communities. The Agora Journalism Center is organizing its second national conference, Elevate Engagement, for the Spring of 2017 in Portland, Oregon. This conference will ask how the public can engage, not as an audience, but as participants with journalists in creating civic structures for engagement and storytelling; and also how news organizations can become more trustworthy and culturally competent in their interactions with communities.
