2024 (3 years)
$1,500,000

University of California, Berkeley, founded in 1868, has been designated as the number-one public university in the world. This grant supports the India Energy and Climate Center – an academic center housed within the university that brings together thought leaders, subnational policymakers, and industry representatives from India’s global partners, such as the United States, to explore strategic collaboration on technology, research, and supply chains. Specifically, it aims to improve the ability of two Indian states to become energy independent by 2047. This is done by building on the idea of ‘coal to solar swaps’ that maintain coal-dependent jobs while building renewable capacity and thereby contributing to a just and actionable economic diversification at the state level.
