Tiny News Collective

The Tiny News Collective (TNC) offers a broad slate of services and supports to meet founders where they are in their journey of building their organizations. Through regranting, TNC provides funds for leadership development, urgent operational needs, revenue experimentation and product development, and collaborative innovation across local news organizations. TNC’s membership network receives more customized services and membership segmentation with the increase in their organizational capacity and collaboration with other journalism support organizations.

The Trans Journalists Association (TJA) is a professional membership organization that promotes more accurate, nuanced coverage of trans issues and communities in the media and supports gender-expansive journalists in their workplaces and careers. TJA has supported more than 800 trans and gender-expansive journalists through their workplace and coverage resources and has roughly 200 members.

TJA is partnering with Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) to build a trans coverage and networking track at IRE’s annual conference. This track aims to: educate and expose mainstream newsrooms to nuances and resources surrounding trans issues to foster better coverage; develop stronger ties with newsrooms, allowing TJA to better offer assistance in such coverage, provide training and networking opportunities for TJA members to help them advance in their careers; and build community among TJA members — many of whom are isolated in newsrooms or work as freelancers — and better understand their needs and concerns.
