The Video Consortium is a global network of documentary filmmakers and visual journalists who work to provide peer support and share experiences working as staff of news organizations and freelancers. As a filmmaker-founded nonprofit organization, the Video Consortium provides training support, grant and fellowship opportunities, and networking events for its more than 3,500 members. There are currently fifteen local Video Consortium chapters across the globe. This grant supports general operations, and the intended outcome is a stronger set of support resources for documentary filmmakers and video journalists telling critical and underreported stories worldwide.
The Video Consortium is a nonprofit organization with a mission to connect the world’s nonfiction filmmakers whose work inspires changes in communities through rigorous reporting and visual craft. It was created using a mutual aid model to address the specific pressures and support gaps experienced by staff and freelance journalists who create documentary videos for news organizations, and independent documentary filmmakers who create journalistic documentaries. The Video Consortium’s programming includes career development, relationship building, and creative empowerment for its growing network of more than 3,500 members and 15 chapters across the world. MacArthur funds support general operations, and the intended outcome of this grant is a stronger support system for nonfiction multimedia storytellers working in journalism and documentary.
