Established in 2008, the Bernard and Shirley Kinsey Foundation for Arts and Education is dedicated to the research, interpretation, and presentation of the African American experience. The Foundation works to increase public awareness about African American history and culture. Its signature effort is the Kinsey African American Art & History Collection, a traveling exhibition comprised of rare primary source historical objects dating from 1595 to the present and visual art created by African American artists from 1865 to the present. This award provides general operating support to the Bernard and Shirley Kinsey Foundation for Arts and Education.
