The Alliance for Media Arts + Culture (the Alliance) is a nonprofit membership organization that works to elevate the profile and influence of the media arts field. It is committed to enhancing collaboration, innovation, strategic growth, cultural impact, and opportunities for the arts and culture sector; and helping historically marginalized communities access technology, build capacity, and cultivate new connections to strengthen their work. The Arts2Work model, an initiative of the Alliance, serves as the first federally-recognized apprenticeship program in creative media arts, and is intended to leverage federal workforce funds to support young people in establishing careers in a fast-growing field. The organization also serves as a resource and network convener for youth media organizations worldwide, via its Global Youth Media Network. Through its Innovation Culture Studio, the Alliance partners with tech companies to make new storytelling technologies accessible to an inspiring network of independent media artists and nonprofit media arts organizations. This grant will contribute to the Alliance's general operations. The results of this grant are a stronger set of resources and support for media arts organizations, and increased opportunities for young people from all backgrounds to begin careers in creative media technologies.

It is engaged in the creation of a federally recognized creative media arts apprenticeship program, Arts2Work; hosts labs, workshops and national convenings to allow artists and civic actors to experiment with technology to create nonfiction storytelling aimed at community impact; and connects a national network of multidisciplinary organizations and individuals. This award provides renewed support for general operations for the Alliance. The Alliance, working at the intersection of a number of fields, builds connections and creates opportunities for more just and inclusive narratives to be generated and exhibited. It is also forging pathways for more Americans from diverse backgrounds to build careers in digital media.

Founded by a group of media arts leaders in 1980, National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture (NAMAC) is a national organization that provides support services to its institutional members and advocates for the field as a whole. This award provides support to NAMAC for outreach, distribution, and education related to artist Lynnette Walworth’s highly influential virtual reality work, Collisions. The creators of the film conduct high-level influencer screenings in partnership with international organizations, develop a permanent installation with the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organization, and develop high school curriculum for use in the United States and Australia.

The National Alliance of Media Arts and Culture (NAMAC) is a nonprofit membership organization that provides opportunities for collaboration, experimentation, and learning for individuals and organizations working in media arts and civil society. NAMAC’s programming helps journalists, filmmakers, artists, and activists reimagine media arts as a vehicle for democratic discourse. It hosts local workshops and national convenings; provides professional development support for media arts administrators; facilitates opportunities for media makers to experiment with new technology; and connects a national network of multidisciplinary organizations and individuals. MacArthur funds support general operations of NAMAC. The outcome of this grant is a stronger media arts field, prepared to collaborate, as well as a series of models for the emerging roles that creative nonfiction multimedia storytelling can play in facilitating social change at a national and local level.
