The South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association (SSMMA) represents 45 local governments in the south suburbs of Chicago. It creates and promotes consensus-backed, regional solutions to improve economic opportunities and enhance the natural environment. This award supports an initiative of SSMMA, the South Suburban Economic Growth Initiative (SSEGI), which coordinates community members, industries, and governments in pursuing cross-regional initiatives. Its goal is to develop large-scale economic development projects in distressed communities to spur the sub-region’s vitality. Award funds support SSEGI working groups on business development, housing, and workforce development. The grant also capitalizes an investment pool to underwrite pilot development projects and assist local governments with program design and implementation.
