HBCUvc

A fiscally sponsored project of Social Good Fund, HBCUvc seeks to expand racial and ethnic diversity in the venture capital field, with a broader goal of facilitating a more equitable distribution of capital to Black, Latinx, and Indigenous entrepreneurs. The project aims to increase the number of decision-makers in venture capital originating from historically marginalized communities. To achieve this goal, HBCUvc targets students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic-Serving Institutions, and Tribal Colleges and Universities, providing them with venture capital investment training and leadership development. The work of HBCUvc supports emerging venture capital professionals of color, which in turn, supports entrepreneurs and communities from historically marginalized communities by increasing their access to capital.

HBCUvc

A fiscally sponsored project of Social Good Fund, HBCUvc seeks to expand racial and ethnic diversity in venture capital with the broader goal of facilitating a more equitable distribution of capital to Black, Latinx and Indigenous entrepreneurs. The project aims to increase the number of decision-makers in venture capital originating from the communities where entrepreneurs have historically faced barriers in accessing capital. To achieve this goal, HBCUvc targets students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic-Serving Institutions and Tribal Colleges and Universities and provides them with venture capital investment training and leadership development.

HBCUvc’s fellowship curriculum is designed as preparation for the modern venture investor by fusing culturally relevant content, connections to diverse venture capital and entrepreneurial leaders, and technical expertise that centers student perspectives in the development of inclusive economies. Through these activities, students are provided with: a) mentorship, peer communities, and leadership development; b) access to apply for paid internships and fellowship programs at leading venture firms; and c) micro-investments for technology entrepreneurs and technical assistance through an evergreen fund managed by the organization.

This award enables HBCUvc to expand its core fellowship program and student-managed fund, allowing those early in their investing careers to gain direct experience in venture investing. Primary learnings for the fellows include (a) deal sourcing and origination, (b) due diligence, (c) transaction syndication, (e) execution and (f) post-investment support for founders and portfolio companies. After program completion, fellows are equipped to land analyst or associate-level roles at venture capital firms, launch their own technology companies, or join technology startups with a growth mindset.
